Case Study: Coconut Oil Maker

  • Name: Heti Desi
  • Home address: Otole village, Lasolo, Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi - Indonesia
My MicroAid Projects Experience:

My skill is to make coconut oil. I can produce 17 bottles per month.  Bottles sell for Rp 2.500 - 3.000 (USD $ 0.25 - 0.30) each. My coconut oil can be stored for 14 - 30 days. This skill I got from my parents.  Many of my women friends here also make the same product. All use traditional methods cooking over our wood and oil stoves. In one production batch , I make Rp 3.500 ($0.3) profit, so for 6 times production batches, I will get Rp 21.000 ($1.80) per month.

After implementing the micro project with MicroAid, I now have new relationships with my neighbors, connections to customers in local market, training and advice from Government services and links to potential suppliers
of coconuts. 15 new connections for me in my life.  I am happy with this, because I found cheaper price
of raw materials for  my product.  I followed the micro project with other 5 friends.  The project was
Technology Information Survey, ID112. Now I produce 10 batches per month , producing over 40 bottles.  I and my friends can sell them all so my monthly income has increased to Rp 180,000 ($20 per month).  A big addition to my family budget for food, clothes and schooling for my children
